What is the Overlay Feature (Catalogue Template)?

BigAtom Overlay Feature for Ecommerce Brands

Updated over a month ago

BigAtom's Overlay feature allows ecommerce brands to enhance their catalogue images with additional elements such as frames, pricing details, strikethroughs, and more. These enhanced images are then added to ad feeds for better visibility and engagement.

4. Easy Management & Automation

  • Effortless Overlay Control: Enable or disable overlays with a single click and manage all active overlays from one dashboard.

  • Time-Saving Automation: Set up rules to automatically apply overlays to products based on specific criteria, reducing manual effort.

5. Data-Driven Optimization

  • Performance Tracking: Gain insights into overlay performance and optimize future campaigns based on data-driven decisions.

Potential Considerations

  • The first time an overlay is tagged in an ad, it will enter the learning phase.

  • This initial learning phase occurs whether the overlay is added via BigAtom or directly on Meta.

  • However, once tagged through BigAtom, further modifications do not push ads into learning again, ensuring continuous optimization.

Conclusion

BigAtom’s Overlay feature offers ecommerce brands a hassle-free way to enhance their ads with dynamic visuals while maintaining control over performance and optimizations. With its broad reach, easy management, and no impact on ad learning post-initial tagging, BigAtom provides a smarter way to enhance ad creatives effortlessly.

Debugging Steps

1. Overlay Shows “0 Products”

When an overlay is first created, it may temporarily display “0 Products” while the application is in progress. It usually takes 3–4 hours for the correct product count to update.

  • If the count is still “0” after 3–4 hours, verify whether any filters have been applied:

    1. Go to Catalog Templates in the sidebar.

    2. Edit the relevant overlay.

    3. Open View Rules and check if any rule is restricting product selection.

    4. Validate whether the catalog products actually meet the conditions you configured.

      • If not, update the rule and save.

    5. If the filters are correct and products still do not appear, contact support.

  • If no filters are added and the count remains “0,” contact support.

2. Overlay Shows “n Products,” But Not Visible in Ads

If the overlay displays a product count but you don’t see it reflected in ads:

  1. Download your Meta catalog from Commerce Manager.

  2. Check whether the overlay was applied to the primary image or an additional image:

    • Primary Image:
Confirm the image_link column contains the overlay image.

    • Additional Images:
Check the additional image columns (typically near the end of the export) for the overlay image.

  3. If the overlay appears correctly in the catalog:

    • Update the feed in Commerce Manager.

    • The overlay should propagate to ads within ~1 hour.

  4. If the overlay image is not present in either primary or additional images where it should be, contact support.
